PRESERVE THE 1866 BRISTOW BRICK UNDER THE "TACO TIME" BUILDING FACADE

Yesterday, September 16th, the Eugene DNA heard a discussion of the possible development of the "Taco Time" building on the NW corner of Kesey Square.
While this could be a big improvement over the current appearance of Taco Time, it is also an opportunity to see what could be saved from the 1866 Bristow Brick, first brick building in Lane County. Significant parts of this old building may yet remain, on the original part of the building nearest Broadway.

Our goal is not to hinder the redevelopment of this site, but rather to see what parts of our community's heritage might be saved to add lustre and cultural interest to this key downtown center.

To read more about this historic building and see historic photos, check my article from the February 11th Eugene Weekly.
Naturally, I'd be pleased to talk with the DNA about this interesting possibility for improving the cultural life of downtown.

Sherrill,
Good idea, that may be just the sort of thing we will end up with. However, at this point we don't know what is actually still available. As I noted in my EW article, until the city carries out an informed, intrusive survey we won't really know what's there.
Thanks for your interest, Doug

I've heard that there is not much left of the original building, but wouldn't it be great to use those original bricks for the facade on e street level?
